A COMMONLY ASKED QUESTION

Another question often asked when it comes to eternity is this: “How can we be joyous and happy in Heaven knowing that there are people suffering in Hell?”
This one in particular is a hard question to answer because on this side of eternity, we don’t have all of the insight and wisdom needed to fully answer it. However, once again, God’s Word helps us to keep this specific question in proper perspective.
1.) Almighty God has promised that He will take away all pain and wipe away every one of our tears (Rev. 21:4). It’s all in His hands and we can be fully assured that our Heavenly Father possesses the ability and power to do as He promised. We will be eternally happy. God has promised it.
2.) We will be fully aware of the justice of God’s decisions. We will clearly see with eyes wide open that those who are in Hell are there because they chose to be by rejecting God’s only provision for escaping eternal punishment. They are those to whom God ultimately says, “Thy will be done.”
3.)We’re going to clearly see there are degrees of punishment in Hell, in the same way there are degrees of reward in Heaven. This will give us the assurance that the Hitlers, Stalins, and Maos of history will be in a state of much greater suffering than a moralist who was a non-believer (Luke 12:47-48).
4.) It’s also entirely possible that our Heavenly Father may remove the memories of Christ rejecting non-believers, including loved ones from our minds. The Lord promised in Isaiah 65:17, “Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.”
And so, we must never forget that Abba Father is perfectly just and wise…and He knows exactly what He is doing. We who know Jesus as personal Savior and Lord can rest with quiet and blessed assurance in the wisdom and justice of God.
