People pursue righteousness in two ways: by doing things to try and 'earn' God's favor or by thanking Jesus for doing all that is required for us to have favor with God. It's not about what you do. It's all about what Jesus has done. You can take all of your good deeds, cross your fingers, and hope that when you stand before God, you've been good enough. But Jesus says, "Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect." His standard is not 'good.' It's perfect. God is perfect. Only perfect people should be allowed to be in the presence of a perfect and All Holy God in a perfect place. Your good deeds are not going to earn you a relationship with God. Only the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross can do that. He lived the life you and I have not lived. He bore the punishment and hell we deserve for our sin and died for us. And He gives the gift you and I cannot earn: forgiveness of sin and eternal life in Heaven.
Will you say "yes" to Jesus today?
"For our sake, He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
